Molochite 30/80 is calcined clay used in the production of ceramic shells for hot metal casting. This is the Molochite applied after the first base coats it is applied to the Primecote Binder.
Calcined clays are produced by holding the material at 1500C which makes it very temperature stable. It also is safer to use than silica based refractories.
This is a much cheaper substitute than Zircon or Chromite heavy sands and suitable for all non ferrous metals
Molochite is the standard “back-up” refractory material used in the production of investment casting shell moulds. Freedom from contamination makesMolochite an ideal filler for foundry coatings in iron, steel and aluminum castings.
The key benefits which Molochite offers to the Investment Casting Industry may be summarized as follows:
Unparalleled consistency of composition
Freedom from contamination
Consistency of size gradings
Compatibility with binders
Angular grain shape
Low dust content stuccos
Wide choice of gradings
